Scholarship Being Awarded
One PhD scholarship will be awarded, provided there are qualified applicants. The dollar amount of the scholarship varies from year to year and is dependent upon the support we receive. PhD Scholarship recipients will be awarded a minimum of $4,000.

Application Process
- Complete the online PhD Scholarship Application. You'll need to provide the following:
- The title of your submission
- Your name, credentials, permanent address, email address and phone number
- Your PhD program name and address
- The name and email for the Program Dean
- The name of your Program Chair
- Area of study
- Your current GPA (you will be submitting your transcript to support this)
- Anticipated graduation date
- A list of presentations and publications in the last three years
- Anticipated dates of your project
- The name of your advisor
- The name and address of the institution that the grant money would be awarded to
- The name, address, phone and email of the Institutional representative or Financial Officer
- Completion of your Personal Statement of Commitment, which includes four parts:
- Professional leadership activities and presentations/publications within and outside of school. Activities must be within the past 3 years. e.g. Sigma Theta Tau, SNAP, student government, etc.
- Special honors/awards received within the past 3 years, e.g. scholarships, nominations, grants
- Community/volunteer activities within the past 3 years, e.g. health-related, faith-based, and civic activities
- A paragraph about why you chose to pursue a PhD in nursing (limit 250 words)
- Submit an abstract summarizing your proposal. This should be supporting information/documentation to receive grant monies from the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania. In approximately 600 words, summarize your proposal in the following format: Specific Aim: This proposal must identify a specific research question. State the intended objectives of the proposed study. State the rationale of your research for your approach to the problem. State the hypothesis this research is designed to test and/or research question(s) this study is designed to answer. Methods and Timetable: Describe the population to be served and the methods for the proposed work. Describe the study design and intervention(s) that will be used to carry out this research project. Identify the study sample, site, and the variables you plan to describe or test. Specify the instruments you plan to use and include copies in an appendix attached to your proposal. If appropriate, include information about the validity and reliability of the instruments. Specify your protocol (how you plan to collect data). Include a proposed timetable for your study. State how you plan to analyze the data collected. Discuss how the project will be sustained or disseminated after the grant period.
- Submit a one-page budget for your project. This should be a one-page separate form. Delineate budget expenses and a budget justification. Indirect costs, capital improvements, and computer hardware will not be supported.
- Submit evidence of Institutional Review for Ethical Standards: Attach evidence that the proposal has been reviewed and approved by an established ethical review board at the institution or site where you plan to conduct this study. Approval may be pending at the time of submission of your application, but an approval letter must be received before any funds are allocated to this project. Include appropriate support letters for the conduct of the research in the institution or setting where data will be collected.
- Submit the dates of your project
- Submit two letters of recommendation, which address the selection criteria below. All letters of recommendation must have applicant's name, as well as the address, telephone number, and email address of the person writing the recommendation.
- You are able to request letters of recommendation to be uploaded through the online submission system
- Submit your transcript of grades that includes the most recently completed semester with the required course in nursing (unofficial transcript is acceptable).
- Submit a document listing the instruments to be used to complete your project.
- Submit the completed signature page. You will need to obtain signatures from your Advisor, Program Chair and Institutional Representative OR Financial Officer.
